The Mary Lyon Foundation
The Mary Lyon Foundation, Inc., initiated in 1990 and incorporated March 8, 1991, is a community based 501(c)3 non-profit organization which supports all aspects of quality education in the towns of Ashfield, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Rowe, and Shelburne.
Encompassing approximately 256 square miles in western Massachusetts, our school district is geographically the largest in the Commonwealth.

November 10, 2009 - 4th annual Mary Lyon Foundation Community Spelling Bee
will take place in the Mohawk Trail Regional High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm.
The event features FREE admission and FREE Refreshments and will be broadcast

6:00 pm in the auditorium.
November 13, 2008 - 3rd annual Mary Lyon Foundation Community Spelling Bee sponsored by Deerfield Academy and First Student
was held in the Mohawk Trail Regional School Auditorium at 7:00 pm. The event featured
FREE admission and FREE Refreshments. This hilariously funny, highly educational
event was to raise $7,000 for mini-grants for 7 local schools in the MTRS system.

June 4, 2008 - 11th Annual Mary Lyon Foundation Spelling Bee for 5th and 6th grade students of the Rowe, Hawlemont and Mohawk Trail Regional School Districts. This year's Bee was held in the auditorium at the Mohawk Trail Regional High School.

The Second Annual Community Spelling Bee! was held on Thursday, November 8, 2007, at the Mohawk Trail Regional High School Auditorium, 7:00 P.M. Thirty teams competed representing almost every imaginable segment of the community, including public and private schools, youth groups, senior citizens, churches, businesses and individuals. This year's Community Spelling Bee featured Spell Master Art Schwenger, Master of Ceremonies Jill Connolly and musician Sue Kranz. The grand champions were Hillside's Ladyslipper Loungers, sponsored by Hillside Nursery and Metaphor Yarns, whose winning team consisted of Amy Murray, Michael Wright, and Joyce VandeKieft. Over $7,000 was raised to benefit the MLF Mini-Grant Program for all seven District schools.
