Mary Lyon Foundation Mini-Grants

Fall Mini-Grant awards were recently announced! Mini-grants are competitive monetary awards given to outstanding, innovative, replicable projects that are outside the regular school budget.

Lynn Dole, Gina Wells, Neale Gay, Scott Whitney, Terry McConnell, MTRS ~ "Save the Memory of this Book" students read books, select a quote & make a poster to be displayed in the school: each student will receive a new book to read.

Patricia Perlman, BSE ~ Grade 2 children will conceptually understand the water cycle and demonstrate competence thru many modalities.

Shelley Schieffelin, MTRS ~ Cinco de Mayo Latin Dance lessons for Spanish students grades 7-12

Luann Lord, Colrain ~ Establish place value stations for students to explore place value in a hands-on, meaningful way

Gina Wells, Terry McConnell, MTRS ~ fee for Library Assoc. Paralibrarian Recognition Award

Kare Marshall, Heath ~ Understanding of kinetic & potential energy thru juggling

Roberta Milner, BSE ~ Use of songs, movement and chants to teach math & science concepts and facts, social studies and grammar

Cathy Geyster, Sanderson ~ Word jeopardy game to reinforce vocabulary & comprehension concepts

Bob Mastorakis, Terry McConnell, Gina Wells, MTRS ~ Encourage voluntary reading by establishing a student fantasy book club

Caron Bromberg, BSE ~ Time management tools to teach efficient use of time in the classroom

JoAnn Pellecchia, Angus Flynn, MTRS ~ Teams of students will use computers for research, brainstorming and writing the components required for NSTA/Toshiba national competition

Terry McConnell, Gina Wells, MTRS ~ Identify reading problems and establish a reading program

Maureen O/Malley, Hawlemont ~ Integrate phonemic awareness activities into work & play

Joan Knox, BSE ~ Special monthly newsletter to send home to parents to promote reading

Kerrie McNay, Sanderson ~ Gain appreciation & understanding of math concepts thru number games

Eileen Deveny, BSE ~ Integration of literature with science & social studies
